What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, with special emphasis on the spine, under the hypothesis that these disorders affect general health via the nervous system. Chiropractic is generally considered to be complementary and alternative medicine, a characterization many chiropractors reject. Chiropractic treatment emphasizes manual therapy including spinal manipulation and other joint and soft tissue manipulation, and includes exercises and health and lifestyle counseling. Traditionally, it assumes that a vertebral subluxation or spinal joint dysfunction can interfere with the body's function and its innate ability to heal itself.

Dr Peggy S Linneman

Dr. Peggy S. Linneman has been practicing in Whitewater since March 1997. She focuses on what chiropractic can do to relieve pain and eliminate nerve interference so your body can function at a higher level. Chiropractic is a less invasive alternative to medicine and could possibly give you the relief you need from your pain.

WHITEWATER CHIROPRACTIC MISSION STATEMENT

About Subluxation

01. A Doctor of Chiropractic is concerned with preserving and restoring health, and focuses particular attention on the condition known as vertebral subluxation. The term vertebral subluxation complex is used to describe what happens when spinal bones lose their normal position and range of motion due to stress, trauma or chemical imbalances. A subluxation is evaluated, diagnosed, and managed through the use of chiropractic procedures, by the Doctor of Chiropractic.

How Do You Get Subluxations (Misalignment of the spine)?

02. There are three basic causes of subluxations. Physical causes could include slips and falls, accidents, repetitive motions and improper lifting. Emotions such as grief, anger and fear can cause subluxations. Chemical causes could include alcohol, drugs, pollution and poor diet.

How Do I Know If I Have A Subluxation?

03. You can have subluxations and not even know it. Like the early stages of tooth decay or cancer, subluxations can be present before warning signs appear. The results of a thorough examination can show the location and severity of subluxations you may have.

On your first visit to our office you will be asked to fill out a patient history. This will give a brief history of your health and chief complaint that you wish help with from the doctor. You will watch a short video explaining the history of chiropractic and the training and certifications the doctor has undertaken to be a licensed chiropractor and knowledgeable in human anatomy. Then X-rays will be taken of the appropriate body parts to ensure the safety of the adjustments as well as to give an idea for the cause of your pain. You will be shown your X-rays and they will be explained to you in a manner you can understand and there will be a discussion about the approach that should be taken. Finally, you will be adjusted by the doctor before you leave that day.
